How to Create a Flower Garden
Flower gardens provide flourishing beauty for your landscape, but in order to stay that way, it’s important to install them properly. First, choose a site that best suits the plant you want to use. Most plants grown for their flowers like full sun and rich, well-drained soil. By building your garden in a low-lying area, you can help ensure that they receive adequate water from rain runoff.
If your area experiences frequent droughts, consider running a length of soaker hose through your garden and attach it to a timer-controlled watering system. This cuts out a lot of manual work and also helps keep the soil consistently moist. Remember, well-watered plants produce the most beautiful flowers. After installing the soaker hose, add a two inch layer of leaf, bark or other mulch to trap in the moisture and protect the plants’ roots. Twice per year, once in spring and again in the late fall, replenish the mulch by adding a fresh layer. This helps keep your garden looking nice and provides a slow-release fertilizer for the plants.
After you have your garden planted, there are many ways you can finish it off. Rock borders, water features and garden ornaments are all very popular and attractive options that bring your garden together.
